I created Breathe & Reset not just as a coding project, but as a personal wellness tool. Like many teens, I have experienced moments of anxiety and stress, especially during exams, presentations, or just trying to keep up with expectations. I wanted something simple and calming to help me feel grounded again. That is how the idea for this app was born.
Later, I came across this video from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine explaining the science of slow breathing. It helped me understand why my app could help not just emotionally, but physiologically.
According to the video, slow, intentional breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, especially through the vagus nerve. This can slow your heart rate, lower stress hormones, and bring your body out of “fight or flight” mode into a calmer state. I had built a tool that was supporting this response, without fully realizing the science behind it.
Now when I use Breathe & Reset, I know it’s not just a moment to pause. It’s a real technique that can support stress management, especially for students like me navigating busy school days.
This is why I love combining tech and wellness. A few lines of code can turn into something that helps people, even if it is just for one minute of peace.
